DEVLOG #2: Rumors & Relics Development Update – Environment & Character Art Refresh
Greetings Adventurers,
Development on Rumors & Relics continues to move forward, and we're excited to share a look at some of the latest visual improvements coming to the game.
BREATHING LIFE INTO THE TAVERN
One of our primary goals for Rumors & Relics is to create a tavern that feels warm, lived-in, and full of potential stories waiting to unfold. Although we were happy with our older artwork for purposes of testing, we feel our new artwork truly brings that feel of real tavern.
Over the past several weeks, we've been updating and refining the game's environment artwork to better capture the atmosphere of a bustling fantasy tavern establishment. This includes:
- Improved tavern interiors and furnishings
- Enhanced lighting, fireplace and candle flicker effects
- Additional decorative props and environmental details
- Better visual contrast and readability
- More immersive fantasy atmosphere
The tavern serves as the heart of Rumors & Relics, and every single expedition begins and ends within the tavern walls. It would be awesome if our players felt like they're managing a real business establishment where roaming adventurers gather, rumors spread amongst them, and fortunes are made by all. There might even be a story or two along the way... or so I hear...
CHARACTER ARTWORK UPDATED
We've also started introducing updated character visuals to better represent the adventurers and NPC staff who inhabit the world.
These improvements are part of an ongoing effort to flesh out our characters personalities and presence while maintaining the game's retro-inspired aesthetic.
As development progresses, you will see further tweaks to character designs, visual variety, and overall presentation of the game.
CHARACTER ANIMATIONS
Now that the updated artwork is starting to take shape, one of our next major focuses will be expanding character movement and interactions through animation.
Planned improvements include:
- Establishing idle animations
- Introducing movement animations
- More expressive character behavior (like washing a beer mug)
These additions will help make the tavern feel more alive and responsive as adventurers come and go throughout the course of your epic journey.
ECONOMY: THE TRUE COST OF ADVENTURERS
Another feature currently in development is an economy update which will introduce hiring costs for new adventurers based on their traits and power.
Recruiting fresh talent from the Guild Hall will soon require an investment, adding another layer of strategic decision-making to tavern management within Rumors & Relics.
Players will need to carefully balance:
- Available gold
- Adventurer quality
- Party composition
- Risk versus reward
- Long-term roster development
This change is intended to make recruitment choices more meaningful while strengthening the game's overall management and progression systems.
That being said...
Having a Drunkard Knight and a Greedy Thief in your party could produce some interesting stories to tell near the fireplace!
A SINCERE THANK YOU
Every game update brings us one step closer to the vision we have for Rumors & Relics: a fantasy tavern management RPG built around emergent storytelling, strategic decision-making, and memorable adventures.
We truly appreciate you for following our development and supporting Northforge Interactive Games. We look forward to sharing more progress in the weeks ahead.
